Each
vegetarian society agrees, upon joining the LSVN, to adopt the following statement
of purpose.
We
recognize that our members will be diverse in their diets, interests, beliefs
and philosophies. Membership is open to
anyone professing an interest in vegetarianism for whatever reason. However, the organization is committed to social
change toward a vegetarian lifestyle that is free of animal products and animal
testing in food, clothing, cosmetics and household products and other areas of
consumption.
The
vegetarian society exists to provide the following:

Social
contact for area vegetarians
·
Mutual
support for those choosing or desiring to lead a vegetarian lifestyle
·
A
vehicle for social activism on behalf of vegetarianism, including activism on
behalf of animal rights, human health, world hunger and the environment
· Public education and awareness regarding matters relating to vegetarianism, including but not limited to nutrition, cooking, lifestyle and ethical, spiritual and health matters
·
Support
for vegetarian eating establishments and encouragement for non-vegetarian eating
establishments to offer vegetarian menu items
·
Self-education
and information exchange regarding subjects of interest to vegetarians
